Designing for Reliability

Highly reliable organizations integrate design for reliability (DfR) principles into all aspects of their capital project process, from project conception through the commissioning phase. The goal is to understand and manage elements that pose the greatest risk to the value stream, maximizing equipment or system availability, and minimizing lifecycle cost of the new or improved asset.

The role that design plays in reliability and total cost of ownership (TCO) should not be underestimated. This whitepaper explains the elements of designing for reliability, demonstrating why investing in the design for production equipment reliability today will likely avoid paying a significantly higher price later.
