We asked a Maintenance Specialist who recently earned his Maintenance Management Certification and Reliability Engineering Certification to share his experience. Here’s what he had to say about the classes, what he learned, and the impact he’s had on his workplace.

What was your experience taking courses online through live, virtual training?

I had a great experience with Life Cycle Institute’s live, virtual training. Although it was missing a little of the informal in-person communication, the experience was still fun and educational.

Was there a particular class that you found most helpful?

I would say that the Risk-Based Asset Management course helped me really understand the process. The other classes were helpful additions, but I would call RBAM the “base.”

How have you applied what you have learned in the courses you took to earn your Maintenance Management Certification and Reliability Engineering Certification?

Within the first month after my first class, I introduced new ideas to management that they were very excited about - so excited that they chose to contact our corporate office! Thanks to the training I received at Life Cycle Institute, I identified a bearing failure early with the vibration analysis I set up, which saved my company approximately $500k and 48 hours of
downtime.

Now that you have completed both certifications, how do you expect that it will help you in your professional development?

I’ve been using what I’ve learned to such a degree that my employer is working on creating a new position just for me to keep doing what I’m doing.

What would you say to someone who’s wondering whether they should pursue their MMC and/or REC?

Do it! The amount of time it takes to learn the fundamentals is nothing compared to the amount of immediate, quantifiable value you can bring to the table. Your career can only be better for it. I know mine is!
