Design for Reliability

Studies have shown that more than 60% of an asset’s reliability, and therefore total cost of ownership, are determined during the design, build, installation and commissioning phase. However, most capital projects are designed and built with little to no involvement from the site team that will be expected to operate and maintain the equipment for years to come.

The design for reliability processes identify what the critical machine design parameters are, identify potential failure rates inherent in the design, and develop a set of specifications that will ensure the asset functions as intended for its planned life.
