Oil Rig Equipment Maintenance Plans and Job Plans

Offshore oil drilling companies require maintenance programs that meet client equipment requirements, safety requirements and the following regulatory and classification society requirements:

  • International Maritime Organizations (IMO)
  • American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
  • United States Coast Guard (USCG)
  • DNV Classification
  • Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Standards

When equipment maintenance plans are not failure-mode driven, do not include all tasks, and lack skill level and labor hours required, equipment performance suffers and the risk of injuries increases. Increased equipment downtime can result in the loss of day rate, fines and the loss of licenses. As part of a risk-based asset management strategy, effective equipment maintenance plans and associated tasks will help eliminate your current bad actor problems, and improve asset availability while decreasing total cost of ownership.

Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) can develop customized maintenance plans and job plans for your oil drilling equipment, taking into consideration OEM Manual recommendations, regulatory and industry standards, company policies, predictive maintenance strategies, historical equipment data, environmental requirements and operating conditions. Our services draw on more than 25 years of drilling equipment knowledge plus a large oil rig equipment reference library that covers major manufacturers for drilling, power generation, electrical distribution, well control, subsea, cranes and overhead lefts, propulsion, fire, health, safety and personnel support equipment.

Scope of Services:

  • Collect rig equipment nameplate and configuration information
  • Develop equipment inventory/hierarchy
  • Develop equipment maintenance plans (EMPs) for maintainable assets
  • Develop maintenance plans/job plans, in agreed-upon format from finalized EMP
  • Recommend any Predictive Maintenance (PdM) plans/job plans
  • Review client comments and finalize maintenance plans/job plans
  • Submit finalized maintenance plans/job plans

Approach:

  • We meet with you to identify job scope, equipment parameters and company policies.
  • We perform a rig check to gather equipment information for equipment inventory/hierarchy, collect maintenance-related information (i.e. location, cooling, filters, etc.), obtain rig and location policies, and document area considerations. Another option is to review an equipment list that you provide.
  • We locate, request and review equipment documentation, company policies, and environmental and safety concerns to develop an EMP for each equipment type/system identified during the initial kick-off meeting. The EMP will list all the recommended maintenance requirements and becomes the basis for maintenance plan/job plan development.
  • We submit the EMP to you for your review and comments.
  • When the EMP maintenance requirements have been approved, LCE develops maintenance plans/job plans for each maintenance requirement listed on the EMP.
  • We submit the EMP maintenance plans/job plans to you for review and comments.
  • LCE incorporates all comments and delivers the final maintenance plans/job plans for inclusion in your EAM/CMMS program.

Deliverables:

  • Equipment inventory/hierarchy
  • Equipment maintenance plans for review
  • Maintenance plans/job plans for review
  • Finalized maintenance plans/job plans
