Joel Ludwig

Electrical Engineer
Philadelphia, PA

Joel, can you tell us a little about yourself?

I grew up in New Jersey and was familiar with the Philadelphia area before moving to Virginia to complete my college education. I received my Bachelor’s from Old Dominion University and Master’s from George Washington University. After college, I worked several years at the shipyard in Newport News providing propulsion plant design, construction, and test support for the USS Gerald R. Ford Aircraft Carrier (CVN78). I then took a job at LCE to be closer to my family that lives in Pennsylvania. When I’m not working, I enjoy staying active, enjoying the beach or new restaurants, and traveling. My favorite destinations close by are New York City and DC, which make for good weekend getaways. LCE also provides the opportunity to travel to support our customers. Currently my work travel destination is Bath, Maine (which is really nice in the summer!), and I anticipate travel to San Diego after the first DDG-1000 ship is delivered there.

What do you do at LCE?

I’m an Electrical Engineer providing professional engineering services to the U.S. Navy for the USS Zumwalt Destroyer (DDG-1000) program. I specifically support the Advanced Electric Power Systems Branch with a particular focus on high voltage work. I provide support encompassing areas of electrical engineering, technical support, project and program management, systems engineering, system studies, drawing review, and troubleshooting. There is a good portion of hands-on support to our work, and we have a land-based test site here in Philadelphia for many Navy programs.

What do you enjoy most about working at LCE?

LCE promotes a friendly culture. Working at LCE feels like a small, family-oriented, and tight-knit community. You really get the sense that the people and managers care about you, and not just about the bottom line. I also appreciate the fact that there is access to leadership, such as the VPs  and CEO who visit our office a few times a year and spend time with employees.

Joel provides support to the following LCE solutions:
